NEW YORK—Rolling out a premium subscription tier for users who want a more customizable viewing experience, HBO’s Max streaming service unveiled a new triple-platinum plan Thursday that allows customers to permanently remove any movie or TV series from the platform. “For $49.99 a month, subscribers now have the option of deleting any shows and films on Max they wish did not exist,” a press release from Max read in part, adding that triple-platinum members did not have to state the reason why they wanted to eliminate Ballers, Fifty Shades Freed, Pearl Harbor, or Entourage from the world, so long as their monthly fees were paid in full. “Maybe you’re tired of seeing promos for The Gilded Age. Maybe you like The Sopranos well enough but you’re bored to tears by people who never stop referencing it. Or maybe you’re just sick of seeing the Property Brothers’ stupid faces every time you log in. The triple-platinum plan allows you to swiftly wipe the collective conscious clean of any reminder these shows were ever made. One easy click of the button will even eliminate movies that you could swear HBO has been showing continuously since the ’80s, like Red Dawn, Rocky IV, and Throw Momma From The Train.” The release added that due to extremely high demand, $100 surge pricing would apply to accounts whose users wish to permanently scrub Bill Maher or Lena Dunham from the platform.
