Marvel Fans Blast Martin Scorsese As Hypocrite For Deadpool Cameo In ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’

LOS ANGELES—Criticizing the apparent insincerity of his statements on comic book franchise films, Marvel fans blasted Martin Scorsese as a hypocrite Thursday for including a Deadpool cameo in his latest feature, Killers Of The Flower Moon. “After all that talk of Marvel movies being the ‘death of cinema,’ Scorsese just turned around and inserted a scene halfway through his film in which Deadpool rides in on a motorcycle and sits down at the dinner table,” said Marvel fan Tracy Reinert, decrying the director’s history of sanctimonious comments about the beloved superhero genre, now rendered completely meaningless with the appearance of Ryan Reynolds as Marvel’s wisecracking assassin in a serious film about Native Americans being murdered for oil money. “Apparently, the rules as to what constitutes true cinema don’t apply to Scorsese’s own films, in which it is fine for Deadpool to show up and break the fourth wall, saying, ‘What the fuck am I doing in one of this crotchety old fuck’s movies?’ before decapitating three guys with his katanas. Of course, Marvel fans like myself would like to welcome Deadpool’s jabs at actor Leonardo DiCaprio for dating young women and at Scorsese for releasing an epic more than three hours long, but unfortunately, given the director’s past sentiments, it makes the whole film feel disingenuous.” While the scene featuring Deadpool in a shootout with Robert De Niro’s character was dazzling, the whole thing feels incredibly wrong.” Reinert also criticized the “unnecessary” performance from Dua Lipa.
