CHICAGO—Blaming platforms like TikTok and YouTube for the fad’s proliferation, experts expressed their concern and bewilderment Wednesday over the last will and testament craze sweeping the nation’s tween girls. “They seem to not understand, or simply not care, that creating a last will and testament at their young age is completely unnecessary,” said estate planning attorney Angela Oren, who described how her office had been swarmed for weeks with preteen girls, some as young as 10 years old, clambering to get their hands on the legal documents. “Since they’re minors, the wills aren’t even legally binding, but they keep showing up in droves after school with their friends anyway. They all want to bequeath each other their iPhone cases and Stanley cups. Gen Alpha is just so impressionable. They see something on social media, and the next minute they’re begging their parents to shell out hundreds of dollars on something they don’t even need.” At press time, Oren added that when she was their age, she had never even heard of a residuary clause.
